How do you put a ferret on a diet when there is another one in the cage with it?
I got another ferret over the summer, so my little girl wouldn’t be lonely, but he is getting really fat. I don’t know how to put him on a diet without depriving my girl of enough food. If anyone can help, please please please respond to this. Thank you!

ferrets are not like humans and tend to only eat what they need. Often times, this time of year they will eat to gain weight intentionally as an instinctual preparation for the winter months.
I would not suggest letting either go with less food, but you can ensure that the larger ferret is getting proper exercise. Entice him to play a little more, and sleep a little less while he’s out.

You’ll have to get another cage, if you put the cages next to each other they’ll still socialize.
What you can do is, take out the bigger ferret and feed him/her outside of the cage, like somewhere in the kitchen and feed her inside the cage. Once he’s done eating his food, whatever is left in the bowl leave it there, just pick it up and have it in handy. You can try Bananas or Vanilla Icecream to get him/her full.
You’re just going to have to feed them seperately. I have a male ferret that is potty trained and just runs free around the house, but I only have him….so I can’t really tell you how to handle that from experience. What times do you usually feed your little girl ferret? You might have to only supply them with food when you are at home (like before and after work), that way you can supervise them seperately to make sure the other one doesn’t get as much. I can’t think of anything else…sorry.

Most people don’t realise that male ferrets do put on a lot of weight at this time of the year, it is natural for them to do it, to put them on a diet is a crazy idea.
These animals are not human and should be treated as animals
