Little changes in my diet to lose weight and keep it off?

Hello. I was wondering if you have any suggestions on small things in my diet that I can change in order to lose some pounds and keep them off? For instance, I hear turkey burger is better for you then hamburger, baked chips are better than fried chips, etc.? I eat a ton of fruit and veggies and am looking to make a lifestyle change when it comes to diet and exercise. Thanks!

Great idea, we have (almost) completely switched from beef to turkey (sausages/bacon) and also have been using a lot of non-meat meals (usually Morningstar – their riblets are awesome).

Baked fries are way better for you and taste really good.

There is no magic pill or program for weight loss, regardless of what others tell you.

You need to follow a sensible diet and start exercising. Start eating fruits and vegetables and lean protein.

There is a great show on the Lifestyle channel, Cook Yourself Thin. They show you how to change your fave recipes to low fat, low calorie. It’s a really neat show.

Their idea is that you take your goal weight and multiply by 10. This number is your maximum daily calories.

You need to eat what’s called filling foods to not get hungry all the time. Things like apples and bananas are filling. Almost all types of beans, garbanzo, green, kidney, re-fried fat-free, beets, cauliflower are some of the many filling veggies.

Avoid over-use of salt, you will retain water.

Drink water, and if you don’t like it plain try a little squeezed lemon or lime in it. Drink at least 8 ozs before each meal.

You may also want to try switching from 3 meals a day and eating 4 or 5 lighter meals.

Exercise, … if you don’t already start walking or anything. Just don’t overdo it at first or you will find reasons to stop.

Losing weight requires a lifestyle change.

Good luck!

here’s what you need to do:
drink lots of water, and eat regularly. don’t starve yourself, because once you start eating again, you’ll gain everything back, trust me.
eat lots of fruits and veggies, eat lean meats like chicken breast, and if you eat bread, make sure it’s whole grain. white bread is pretty fattening.
skip out on sweets, candy, sugary foods, and chips and cookies.
cut out ALL soda! if you stop drinking soda, it helps you out a lot!
    and don’t forget to exercise!
try walking, jogging, jump rope, and swimming. try exercising for 45-60 minutes a day. hope this helps!

Another thing you should look at is what you intake drink-wise. I didn’t realize before that drinking one 20 oz bottle of Mountain Dew runs about 270 calories. To put that in perspective, a 6″ Turkey Sub at Subway is only 290 calories. You just ate a meal by drinking one soft drink.

I don’t like diet drinks. The sweetner they use tastes like poo to me and it has a bad aftertaste as well. I tried all the little “On the go” drink mixes from Crystal Light. Same sweetner, same icky taste. Finally found something I love though since I don’t really enjoy the taste of plain water most of the time.

Can’t find a link for them up front but it’s Propel Fitness water powder packages. I used to buy the water itself but it gets kinda expensive after a while. Now I buy the little packages, you can pick them up at any grocery store. Comes with 10 packages, each package is 20 calories (they say 10 calories per serving but there’s 2 servings in each package– sneaky marketing execs =/) but if you think of it that way, you can drink 13 bottles of water with the flavor powder in it before you reach the calories in 1 soft drink.

That alone cuts a HUGE amount of calories when you think throughout the whole day/week if soda is a big part of your life right now.
