What is the healthiest diet for puppies?

I have a 8-10 week old Australian Shepherd puppy. I was just wondering what I should feed it and how much i should feed her. Please say the recipe of your diet it you find one.
Thanks much!

Chosen Answer:

A raw, prey model diet is the healthiest, but few people have the time and patience to ensure their dogs get what they need. There are many quality dry diets (Science Diet being one of the WORST) that your puppy will do well on. http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/ read the reviews, learn what makes a diet either good or bad, see what’s available in your area and buy the best diet you can afford. Feeding recommendations are based on age & weight & will vary with each diet

Dry and wet diets were designed for OUR convenience, not our pets health, so while there are commercially prepared diets that are healthy for our pets, they are NOT what an animal is designed to eat

Also, few vets have ANY education when it comes to canine nutrition, so few are aware of what is, and isn’t healthy for our dogs, which is why most push the Science Diet crap that they all seem to sell

I feed my puppy Dick van patten’s natural balance food. she loves it and there’s never any by-products and meat or vegetable is always the first ingredient. Even my very picky mini schnauzer likes this food!

Don’t listen to these people here, they are crazy. I buy Blue large breed puppy food. I feed my 2 month white lab 2 – 2 and 1/2 cups of food a day split out in 1/4 cup feedings. This dog food is very high quality and can be bought at Petco. My vet said it is an excellent dog food. My puppy is very happy and healthy! It is a little pricey but it is worth it so you have a healthy dog, remember, a healthy dog means less health problems and visits to the Vet. It is worth it!

health of dogs, along with health of people, is as biased as everything else. It is mostly an opinion. This is a question that you should ask your vet, since each individual dog has individual needs.
